Program
Kick Start is a social enterprise and employment pathways program dedicated to empowering young people, by providing meaningful work, formal training in hospitality, life skills and mentoring.

stage 1 - part qualification
stage 2 - Certificate III hospitality
The part qualification consists of 6 units from the SIT30616 Certificate III Hospitality course, aimed at preparing the trainees for the workforce. During this time, the trainees will learn important transferable skills such as workplace and food safety, customer service, and working in a team.
Whilst working in the food trailers, the trainees will gain experience in all areas of the operation, including preparing food items, serving customers, cash handling and making coffee, and will receive skills training from the food trailer operators and coffee supply partner.
Trainees who have complete the part qualification have the option to stay on for a further 9 units and complete the Certificate III Hospitality. These units are more job specific and relatable to the skills and duties performed during the trainee’s time working in the food trailers.
Further to the experience gained working in the food trailers, the trainees will have the opportunity to spend time in other areas of the business, and with PAYCE Foundation partners. This could include working in a production kitchen, Kick Start Café Riverwood, food deliveries, and more!
Career mentoring and transition to employment
Trainees will be supported through their employment at Kick Start Café by a trainee coordinator. Trainees will receive assistance to address barriers to employment and identify personal and professional goals to work towards. In addition, trainees will be mentored through individualised career planning and be supported by the trainee coordinator to prepare for and secure employment at the end of the Kick Start Café program.
